Privacy

RollNight is a camera for events. Guests don’t make an account.

What we collect

The photos you take at an event, and, only if you choose to give them, your name, your email, a note for the host and a rating of the event from 1 to 5 stars. With an email, the app also sends your phone’s time zone. To count your shots we keep a random id the app makes for your phone, used for nothing else. If you tick any of the three boxes below your email, we keep that you did, when, and which words you saw.

Who sees it

Your name, email, note and rating are seen by only the event’s host; the host never sees your time zone. Your photos are seen by the host and, after the host’s reveal time, by the guests who joined the same event with its code. If you report a photo, the host sees the reason, not who sent it; if you block a guest, no one is told. If you heart a photo, guests and the host see how many hearts it has, never whose. Nothing is public. We don’t sell anything, show ads or track you across apps.

Who handles it for us

RollNight runs on Cloudflare, which stores the photos and everything above. Resend delivers the emails RollNight sends: a host’s sign-in code, a host’s reminder before an event is deleted, and the two emails below to a guest who left their address. It gets the address and the message, to deliver them. If the app or our server runs into an error, a crash report with technical details (device model, iOS version, what failed) is sent to Sentry, our error-reporting service; it carries no photos, names, emails, notes or event codes and is not linked to you.

If you leave your email

RollNight sends you at most two emails about that event and no others: the whole roll when the door opens, with a link to the photos you can see in the app, and, if there’s time, a reminder about an hour before. So those emails and the link give times in your own time, the app sends your phone’s time zone with your email (a city like Sydney, never where you are within it), and they name it beside each time; it’s used for nothing else. Anyone with that link can see those photos, and that city, until they’re deleted, so share it only with people you’d show them to. Each email has a link to unsubscribe, which stops the rest; the link to the photos keeps working, and your address is deleted with the event.

If you host

Hosting an event, on the web or in the app, needs an account: your email, an id for your account, and the events you make. You sign in with a code we email you; the app keeps the session on your phone until you sign out. We keep your account until you delete it, in the app under Host, then Account, or ask us to. Deleting it deletes your account and every event you host, with their photos and guests’ details, at once; if anything is left, it’s deleted within a day. Until then, your events and their photos go on their own schedule, below.

The three boxes

Each is optional, starts unticked, and means only what it says. Not ticking them changes nothing else: the two emails above still come if you left your address.

When it’s deleted

Everything from an event — photos, details (your time zone with them), reports, blocks, hearts and the counts — is deleted 30 days after its code expires. A host can delete any photo sooner. The one exception is your address on RollNight’s news list, if you ticked that box: it stays until you unsubscribe or ask.

The Android waitlist

If you leave your email to hear when RollNight is on Android, it’s used only to tell you that, once, and it’s never shared. We also note the kind of phone you signed up on and, if you came from an event’s page, which event. It’s all deleted when that email is sent, after 12 months, or sooner if you ask at support@rollnight.app.

Questions

What isn’t allowed on RollNight is in the terms. Questions about an event’s photos go to its host. Anything else: support@rollnight.app.
